MANAGEMENT:

Swelling

Swelling is a normal response to Hylenex. Swelling may appear asymmetrical, but this is normal and not an indication of the end result. The swelling should subside within a couple of days.

Swelling Relief

  • Apply a warm compress to the area for 10 minutes every hour on treatment day.
  • Take an antihistamine (e.g. 10mg loratadine)
  • Try sleeping on your back, slightly elevated, to prevent pressure build-up on the face

Bruising

Bruising is a common and expected side effect. This is not due to poor technique and will not alter the final result of your treatment. In order to reduce bruising, it is important to adhere to the aftercare regime.

Bruising Relief

  • Avoid any medications containing NSAIDs, aspirin, vitamin E and ginseng for the week prior and the week following treatment, unless medically necessary and after discussion with your doctor/nurse.
  • Apply a warm compress to the area for 10 minutes every hour on treatment day.
  • Apply topical Arnica to the affected area.

FAQs

How long until I will see results?

Although some of the effects can be immediate, it can take up to 2 weeks for the final results to be seen and the procedure may need to be repeated.

Further dissolving with Hylenex may need to be performed, this is best done 14 days after the initial treatment.

How long after the Hyaluronidase can I get Dermal Filler?

Further treatment with dermal filler to the corrected area can be performed no sooner than 14 days after the last treatment with Hyalase.

After each treatment session with Sculptra Aesthetic there are a few easy things you will need to help with the treatment results. You can print out this instruction sheet and keep it handy so you remember to do these things every day:

  • HAVE AN – ice pack ready: Within the first 24 hours of treatment, apply a cloth-wrapped ice pack to the treated area for a few minutes at a time. Never apply ice directly to the skin. The cold will help reduce common swelling.
  • GIVE YOURSELF – facial massages: Massage the treated area for 5 minutes 5 times a day for 5 days after treatment as recommended by your physician
  • AVOID – excess sunlight and UV exposure: Protecting your skin from the sun is always important, but after treatment, excessive sunlight and UV lamp exposure should be avoided until any initial swelling and redness go away. Your doctor will provide guidelines on sunscreen protection and how to avoid excessive sunlight.

Call our office if you have any questions or concerns after treatment. Also, report any side effects to your doctor. Be sure to keep any follow-up appointments that may be scheduled.

Remember, Sculptra Aesthetic works by gradually replacing lost collagen. It provides improvements subtly without making it look like you’ve had work done.

Post-Sculptra Instructions:

  • DO massage the treated areas 5 times a day for about 5 minutes for 5 days after treatment.
  • DO hold ice packs on the treated areas gently for about 3-5 minutes a few times that day.
  • Feel free to wear makeup a few hours after.
  • Treated areas may be red, swollen, and bruised for the first 2-7 days.
  • Do NOT get a facial or massage for 2 weeks after your filler procedure.
  • Avoid strenuous workouts and alcohol for 24 hours if possible.
  • If bruising occurs, continue Arnica supplements, DO apply topical Arnica gel, drink fresh pineapple juice, and/or take Bromelain supplements to help bruising resolve faster.
  • Bruising can be covered with makeup. i.e. Dermablend (CVS or Macy’s) or Colorescience Corrective Palette.
  • A few days after treatment, you will look as you did before treatment. This is normal, over time, Sculptra will replace lost collagen.

Follow-Up Treatment:

  • Follow up treatments should be scheduled about every 4-6 weeks.
  • Visible results may not be seen until 3 sessions have been completed.
  • Results can last more than two years.

PRE TREATMENT

If you develop a fever, cold, or flu symptoms, or develop a cold sore, blemish, or rash, etc. in the area to be treated prior to your appointment, you must reschedule (we will not treat you).

It is recommended, if you have a special event or vacation coming up that you schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance (we prefer 3-4).

If you are being treated in the lip area and have a history of herpes (cold sores) with outbreaks more than 4 times a year some practitioners recommended that you are pretreated with medication. **Please let us know that you need a prescription if you do not have this medication on hand. **

Discontinue use of anti-inflammatory drugs (steroidal and non-steroidal) such as Aspirin, Motrin (or any other Ibuprofen drugs) at least 3 days to 1 week before your treatment.  If medically prescribed, please consult with your prescribing provider.

With PRF, we “want” inflammation this is one of the mechanisms of how PRF does its work. If you are or have been on systemic use of corticosteroids (steroids) within 2 weeks of treatment, we cannot treat you. Consult your physician for approval to discontinue the use of steroids and receive treatment.

Discontinue use of any other blood thinning agents such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s and DHA’s), etc. at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising and bleeding; if medically prescribed please check with your prescribing provider before discontinuing.

The success of this treatment is dependent on your cellular health.  Please be sure to hydrate well and eat healthy food leading up to your appointment.

It is recommended that you avoid: Alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, spicy foods, and cigarettes 3 days before and after your treatment. (All of these may increase the risk of bruising).

POST TREATMENT

There are minimal restrictions after your PRF injections allowing you to return to your daily activities almost immediately.

Continue to hydrate and eat well after your treatment.  The body needs support!  Water + protein = your best friend.

Do not touch, press, rub, or manipulate the treated area (s) for at least 8 hours after your treatment.

Avoid blood thinners and NSAIDs for 2 weeks following your treatment to minimize the risk of bruising.

If you experience discomfort or pain, you may take acetaminophen/Tylenol as directed.

You may apply ice to the injected area for 20-30 minutes after the procedure for comfort.  We recommend using ice only if absolutely needed, as it is better to let the treatment settle naturally.

Do not wash or take a shower for at least 6 hours after your treatment.

Do not use any lotions, creams, or make-up for at least 6 hours after your treatment.

Avoid vigorous exercise and sun and heat exposure for at least 3 days after your treatment.

It is normal to experience bruising, redness, itching, soreness, and swelling that may last 3-14 days following your procedure.

PREPARING FOR YOUR SKINPEN PROCEDURE

  • The treated area may be pink and mildly inflamed (similar to the appearance of a mild sunburn) for 24-48 hours following your SkinPen procedure.
  • Your physician will advise you to keep your skin clean of cosmetics or sunscreen for the remainder of your day post-procedure.
  • If you are prone to herpes simplex infections, such as cold sores, ask your physician whether prophylaxis therapy is appropriate prior to the procedure.
  • If you have been overexposed to the sun (sunburn) the day preceding your appointment, please call our office to reschedule your appointment.
  • This procedure may not be performed on active breakouts or open lesions. Please consult your physician prior to your SkinPen procedure to address any such issues.
  • Wait at least six months post isotretinoin use before your SkinPen procedure, as isotretinoin use may impair wound healing and increase risk of scar tissue formation.
  • Allow 48 hours after spray or self-tanning lotions before your SkinPen procedure.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours prior to the procedure.
  • Discontinue the use of topical products containing Retinol or Vitamin A for 24 hours prior to your SkinPen procedure.
  • If you are on autoimmune therapy, ask your physician if you should refrain from taking any medications prior to your SkinPen procedure

POST SKINPEN PROCEDURE GUIDELINES

  • Avoid strenuous exercise or excessive perspiration for 72 hours post-procedure, as excess blood flow and sweat can cause discomfort and irritation to compromised skin.
  • Avoid use of any topical products not provided by your skincare professional for specific use with this procedure. This includes but is not limited to cosmetics, cleansers, sunscreens, moisturizers, etc.  Unexpected complications may occur when products not proven safe for use with microneedling are applied post-procedure.  In lieu of cleansing your skin, you may rinse with cool water (or a vinegar soak) as needed.
  • RESCUE calming complex can be applied as needed after the first 24 hours to help soothe the skin.
  • Strictly avoid sun exposure as you will not be wearing sunscreen. You may return to sunscreen use 24 hours after the procedure. Continue to minimize sun exposure for 72 hours following the procedure.
  • Skincare products with active ingredients can be restarted after one week.

PREPARING FOR YOUR SKINPEN + REJURAN PROCEDURE

Your upcoming SkinPen treatment will now include Rejuran Healing Essence, a powerful topical booster derived from PDRN (polydeoxyribonucleotide)—a regenerative compound sourced from salmon DNA. This advanced formula enhances post-procedure healing, boosts collagen production, improves skin texture, and reduces inflammation.

Please follow these guidelines to ensure the best results:

  • Expect the treated area to appear pink and mildly inflamed, similar to a light sunburn, for 24–48 hours post-treatment.

  • Do not apply cosmetics, SPF, or skincare products for the remainder of the day post-procedure unless directed by your provider.

  • If you are prone to cold sores or herpes simplex infections, ask your provider about starting prophylactic antiviral medication prior to treatment.

  • If you are experiencing active acne breakouts, open lesions, or sunburn, please call the office to reschedule your appointment.

  • You must wait at least 6 months after using isotretinoin (Accutane) before having microneedling performed, due to its effects on wound healing.

  • Avoid sun exposure, spray tans, or self-tanning lotions for 24–48 hours prior to your appointment.

  • Discontinue retinol or Vitamin A products 24 hours before your treatment.

  • If you are on autoimmune therapy, consult your physician about any necessary modifications to your medication.

WHAT TO EXPECT WITH REJURAN + MICRONEEDLING

Rejuran Healing Essence is applied immediately after microneedling to allow deep penetration into the skin. Because this product is cell-regenerative and anti-inflammatory, you may experience:

  • Accelerated healing and reduced redness compared to microneedling alone

  • A softer, smoother texture and a noticeable boost in glow within days, this peaks around week 3

  • In some cases, MENDS (microscopic epidermal necrotic debris)—tiny dark spots that look like specks or freckles—may appear a few days after treatment. These are completely normal and are part of the skin’s natural renewal process. They typically flake off within 3–7 days.

POST-SKINPEN PROCEDURE GUIDELINES

To protect your results and support your healing, follow these instructions:

  • Avoid strenuous exercise, sweating, or saunas for 72 hours post-treatment, as perspiration can irritate the skin.

  • Use only the post-care products provided or approved by your provider. Do not apply any other skincare (makeup, cleansers, moisturizers, sunscreen, etc.) for the first 24 hours.

  • Instead of cleansing, you may rinse with cool water or do a gentle vinegar soak if needed.

  • After the first 24 hours, you may begin applying RESCUE Calming Complex or other recommended products to soothe the skin.

  • Avoid sun exposure completely for the first 24 hours. You may begin wearing sunscreen after 24 hours but continue to minimize sun exposure for at least 72 hours.

  • You can resume your normal skincare regimen (including active ingredients like retinol) after 7 days, unless otherwise advised.

Important Instruction:
Because this treatment includes both radiofrequency (Morpheus8) and fractional CO₂ (CoolPeel), the skin may feel hot for several hours.

Do not apply Aquaphor, Vaseline, or any occlusive product until the heat sensation has completely resolved.
Occlusives trap heat and may worsen inflammation after this combination treatment.

First 24 Hours After Treatment

Normal responses include redness, heat, tightness, and mild swelling.

Keep the skin clean and avoid touching the treated area.  Clean skin with a mixture of distilled white vinegar and water (2-4 cups of water + 1 tbsp distilled white vinegar).  Keep this mixture in the fridge, you will use it to clean and as a cool compress.

Gentle cool compresses may be used to reduce heat (do not apply ice directly to the skin).  Use the vinegar mixture on a towel as a cool compress.

Avoid sweating, exercise, saunas, or steam rooms for 48-72 hours.

Do not apply makeup for 3–5 days

Cleansing:

You can switch to a gentle cleanser after 48 hours, or continue with the vinegar through the healing process

Use a gentle cleanser free of active ingredients.

Pat dry; do not rub.

Moisturizing:

Do not use anything occlusive for at least 24 hours.  Begin using a LIGHT layer of Aquaphor to keep the skin moist after 24 hours.  This is important to prevent pigment caused by scabbing.

After 48-72 hours you can switch to the SOS cream (if purchased), if not, continue with Aquaphor until the texture has subsided.

Days 2–7

The skin may feel dry, rough, or have light flaking. This is expected.

Apply a physical sunscreen (SPF 30 or higher) daily.

Avoid:

Retinoids / Tretinoin

Chemical exfoliants (AHA/BHA)

Scrubs or exfoliating devices

Picking, peeling, or scratching

Days 7–14

Active skin care can be resumed only when instructed by your provider, typically around days 7–10.

Continue gentle moisturizer and sunscreen daily.

Improvement will continue as collagen remodels over the next several weeks.

Normal Expected Reactions

Redness or mild swelling

Pinpoint scabbing (micro-crusting)

Rough or “sandpaper” texture

Notify the Office If You Experience:

Blistering

Increasing redness or warmth after 72 hours
