It takes time for the muscles to lose strength and the lines to fade following treatment. Please wait until 14 days have passed before assessing if you are pleased with the results.  It is normal to have uneven results within the first 14 days, most of the time this corrects itself.
  • Do not touch or rub injected site for 4 hours following treatment. Avoid exercise and sweating for 48 hours and no lying down for 4 hours after treatment.
  • Avoid heat exposure, tanning beds, saunas, hot tubs for 48 hours.

If any of these symptoms persist longer than a week, or if you develop other symptoms, please contact our office.
  • Please do NOT massage the areas we injected.
  • If you had facial filler, do not lay on your side or put pressure on the areas for a few days minimum.

  • You may take Tylenol® (if not contraindicated) one hour before your appointment to prevent any discomfort you may experience. If you have concerns about discomfort.
  • Take Arnica Tablets in the days leading up to your appointment, this will help with bruising and swelling.  A minimum of 7 days is ideal.
  • Drink plenty of water prior to and after appointment.

MANAGEMENT:

Swelling

Swelling is a normal response to Hylenex. Swelling may appear asymmetrical, but this is normal and not an indication of the end result. The swelling should subside within a couple of days.

Swelling Relief

  • Apply a warm compress to the area for 10 minutes every hour on treatment day.
  • Take an antihistamine (e.g. 10mg loratadine)
  • Try sleeping on your back, slightly elevated, to prevent pressure build-up on the face

Bruising

Bruising is a common and expected side effect. This is not due to poor technique and will not alter the final result of your treatment. In order to reduce bruising, it is important to adhere to the aftercare regime.

Bruising Relief

  • Avoid any medications containing NSAIDs, aspirin, vitamin E and ginseng for the week prior and the week following treatment, unless medically necessary and after discussion with your doctor/nurse.
  • Apply a warm compress to the area for 10 minutes every hour on treatment day.
  • Apply topical Arnica to the affected area.

FAQs

How long until I will see results?

Although some of the effects can be immediate, it can take up to 2 weeks for the final results to be seen and the procedure may need to be repeated.

Further dissolving with Hylenex may need to be performed, this is best done 14 days after the initial treatment.

How long after the Hyaluronidase can I get Dermal Filler?

Further treatment with dermal filler to the corrected area can be performed no sooner than 14 days after the last treatment with Hyalase.

After each treatment session with Sculptra Aesthetic there are a few easy things you will need to help with the treatment results. You can print out this instruction sheet and keep it handy so you remember to do these things every day:

  • HAVE AN – ice pack ready: Within the first 24 hours of treatment, apply a cloth-wrapped ice pack to the treated area for a few minutes at a time. Never apply ice directly to the skin. The cold will help reduce common swelling.
  • GIVE YOURSELF – facial massages: Massage the treated area for 5 minutes 5 times a day for 5 days after treatment as recommended by your physician
  • AVOID – excess sunlight and UV exposure: Protecting your skin from the sun is always important, but after treatment, excessive sunlight and UV lamp exposure should be avoided until any initial swelling and redness go away. Your doctor will provide guidelines on sunscreen protection and how to avoid excessive sunlight.

Call our office if you have any questions or concerns after treatment. Also, report any side effects to your doctor. Be sure to keep any follow-up appointments that may be scheduled.

Remember, Sculptra Aesthetic works by gradually replacing lost collagen. It provides improvements subtly without making it look like you’ve had work done.

Post-Sculptra Instructions:

  • DO massage the treated areas 5 times a day for about 5 minutes for 5 days after treatment.
  • DO hold ice packs on the treated areas gently for about 3-5 minutes a few times that day.
  • Feel free to wear makeup a few hours after.
  • Treated areas may be red, swollen, and bruised for the first 2-7 days.
  • Do NOT get a facial or massage for 2 weeks after your filler procedure.
  • Avoid strenuous workouts and alcohol for 24 hours if possible.
  • If bruising occurs, continue Arnica supplements, DO apply topical Arnica gel, drink fresh pineapple juice, and/or take Bromelain supplements to help bruising resolve faster.
  • Bruising can be covered with makeup. i.e. Dermablend (CVS or Macy’s) or Colorescience Corrective Palette.
  • A few days after treatment, you will look as you did before treatment. This is normal, over time, Sculptra will replace lost collagen.

Follow-Up Treatment:

  • Follow up treatments should be scheduled about every 4-6 weeks.
  • Visible results may not be seen until 3 sessions have been completed.
  • Results can last more than two years.

PRE TREATMENT

If you develop a fever, cold, or flu symptoms, or develop a cold sore, blemish, or rash, etc. in the area to be treated prior to your appointment, you must reschedule (we will not treat you).

It is recommended, if you have a special event or vacation coming up that you schedule your treatment at least 2 weeks in advance (we prefer 3-4).

If you are being treated in the lip area and have a history of herpes (cold sores) with outbreaks more than 4 times a year some practitioners recommended that you are pretreated with medication. **Please let us know that you need a prescription if you do not have this medication on hand. **

Discontinue use of anti-inflammatory drugs (steroidal and non-steroidal) such as Aspirin, Motrin (or any other Ibuprofen drugs) at least 3 days to 1 week before your treatment.

With PRF, we “want” inflammation this is one of the mechanisms of how PRF does its work. If you are or have been on systemic use of corticosteroids (steroids) within 2 weeks of treatment, we cannot treat you. Consult your physician for approval to discontinue the use of steroids and receive treatment.

Discontinue use of any other blood thinning agents such as Vitamin E, Vitamin A, Gingko Biloba, Garlic, Flax Oil, Cod Liver Oil, Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’s and DHA’s), etc. at least 3 days to 1 week before and after treatment to minimize bruising and bleeding.

The success of this treatment is dependent on your cellular health.  Please be sure to hydrate well and eat healthy food leading up to your appointment.

It is recommended that you avoid: Alcohol, caffeine, Niacin supplement, spicy foods, and cigarettes 3 days before and after your treatment. (All of these may increase the risk of bruising).

POST TREATMENT

There are minimal restrictions after your PRF injections allowing you to return to your daily activities almost immediately.

Do not touch, press, rub, or manipulate the treated area (s) for at least 8 hours after your treatment.

Avoid blood thinners and NSAIDs for 2 weeks following your treatment to minimize the risk of bruising.

If you experience discomfort or pain, you may take acetaminophen/Tylenol as directed.

You may apply ice to the injected area for 20-30 minutes after the procedure for comfort.

Do not wash or take a shower for at least 6 hours after your treatment.

Do not use any lotions, creams, or make-up for at least 6 hours after your treatment.

Avoid vigorous exercise and sun and heat exposure for at least 3 days after your treatment.

It is normal to experience bruising, redness, itching, soreness, and swelling that may last 3-14 days following your procedure.

PREPARING FOR YOUR SKINPEN PROCEDURE

  • The treated area may be pink and mildly inflamed (similar to the appearance of a mild sunburn) for 24-48 hours following your SkinPen procedure.
  • Your physician will advise you to keep your skin clean of cosmetics or sunscreen for the remainder of your day post-procedure.
  • If you are prone to herpes simplex infections, such as cold sores, ask your physician whether prophylaxis therapy is appropriate prior to the procedure.
  • If you have been overexposed to the sun (sunburn) the day preceding your appointment, please call our office to reschedule your appointment.
  • This procedure may not be performed on active breakouts or open lesions. Please consult your physician prior to your SkinPen procedure to address any such issues.
  • Wait at least six months post isotretinoin use before your SkinPen procedure, as isotretinoin use may impair wound healing and increase risk of scar tissue formation.
  • Allow 48 hours after spray or self-tanning lotions before your SkinPen procedure.
  • Avoid sun exposure for 24 hours prior to the procedure.
  • Discontinue the use of topical products containing Retinol or Vitamin A for 24 hours prior to your SkinPen procedure.
  • If you are on autoimmune therapy, ask your physician if you should refrain from taking any medications prior to your SkinPen procedure

POST SKINPEN PROCEDURE GUIDELINES

  • Avoid strenuous exercise or excessive perspiration for 72 hours post-procedure, as excess blood flow and sweat can cause discomfort and irritation to compromised skin.
  • Avoid use of any topical products not provided by your skincare professional for specific use with this procedure. This includes but is not limited to cosmetics, cleansers, sunscreens, moisturizers, etc.  Unexpected complications may occur when products not proven safe for use with microneedling are applied post-procedure.  In lieu of cleansing your skin, you may rinse with cool water (or a vinegar soak) as needed.
  • RESCUE calming complex can be applied as needed after the first 24 hours to help soothe the skin.
  • Strictly avoid sun exposure as you will not be wearing sunscreen. You may return to sunscreen use 24 hours after the procedure. Continue to minimize sun exposure for 72 hours following the procedure.
  • Skincare products with active ingredients can be restarted after one week.

PRE TREATMENT

  • PREP: We recommend you avoid sun-tanning, spray-tanning and sunbeds 4 weeks before your treatment. Ideally, you should use SPF40+ to prep your skin for 4 weeks before your treatment, especially if you have a naturally darker complexion. You may even wish to consider a Pre-treatment product using a Tyrosinase Inhibitor (A-Luminate) as this can help prevent the enzyme “Tyrosinase” from misfiring or over-oxidizing the Tyrosine and thus helps ensure there is no overproduction of pigment in the skin.
  • No tanning (spray tanning, sun tanning and tanning beds) for 4 weeks before your treatment.
  • No facial acids (salicylic, glycolic) 7 days before and 7 days after Plasma Pen.
  • No tox 5 days before Plasma Pen.
  • No Fillers 21 days before Plasma Pen.
  • No Micro-needling/PRP 21 days before or after the Plasma Pen.
  • No Peels for 30 days before or after Plasma Pen.
  • Discontinue any use of topical Retin-A products a minimum of 7 days prior to and after treatment. Use common sense. If the area you’re treating looks irritated prior to treatment, DO NOT TREAT that day until the redness/irritation resolves.
  • Remove contact lenses prior to treatment. Patient should bring glasses to wear home from appointment if they are having eye area treated.

First 72 Hours Following Treatment

You must follow the provided aftercare protocol to expedite the healing process and avoid complications.

THE GOAL IS TO KEEP THE AREA CLEAN AND MOIST.

  1. You may experience a “stinging” sensation in the treated area(s) immediately after treatment. This is normal and it generally only lasts for up to three hours.
  2. Avoid taking anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin, ibuprofen or steroids at least one week before and after the treatment if possible. Tylenol is acceptable.
  3. If you are receiving a Plasma Pen treatment anywhere on your face or neck, we recommend you sleep on your back with your head elevated to reduce swelling.
  4. We recommend that you DO NOT apply cold packs or ice during the swelling period. Icing will diminish the outcome and inhibit the inflammation process that we want to naturally happen. Applying cold ice packs could interfere with the mechanism of action performed by the device and the skin’s natural healing process to achieve the desired result. If necessary use ice minimally during the first 48 hours making sure the not to get the treated area moist.
  5. DO NOT exercise 72 hours after treatment or expose yourself to any heat, steam or sweat because this can intensify the inflammation that’s already present.
  6. DO NOT cleanse the treated area until the following day.  If you have burning or stinging, you may mix 2 cups of water with 1 TBSP of distilled white vinegar and use clean 4×4’s soaked in the mixture and gently cleanse your face with it.
  7. You will use a thin layer of Aquaphor throughout the day to keep the area moist.
  8. The area that has been treated must NOT be covered with any occlusive dressing, or any type of sunblock, make-up, mascara, creams or any other products until the area has fully healed. Many ingredients in skin care products and cosmetics can irritate the skin and cause allergic reactions. Ultimately this will slow your healing process and possibly impede desired results.
  9. It is highly unlikely you will ever get an infection from a plasma pen treatment, as the wound we cause is not open. However, the first 12 hours post-treatment is vital in protecting you from any potential infection, so please AVIOD any activities where you could expose yourself to contaminants. Make sure your hands are clean and washed before touching the treated area.
  10. You may return to work the following day. However, you will not look your absolute best during the initial healing process (approximately 7 days).
  11. Expect redness, heat, swelling and inflammation for the first 1 to 5 days post-treatment. This is normal but will usually be of a very minor in nature.

Days 3-7 Following Your Treatment

THE GOAL IS TO KEEP THE AREA CLEAN AND MOIST.

  1. It is normal for the area that has been treated to be red/pink, swollen, tight and dry. Occasional weeping is normal and will settle.
  2. Tiny crusts will quickly form on the treated area. These may be visible for up to about a week.
  3. DO NOT pick crusts off as this will delay the healing process and could cause hyperpigmentation and scarring.
  4. The area(s) treated may be cleansed daily with room temperature water and your fingers. Avoid using washcloths or any other washing devices. You are only removing excess oil and do not need to thoroughly cleanse the treated skin. DO NOT be tempted to rub or exfoliate the area in any way to aid in the removal of the crusts. Pat dry with a clean towel.
  5. DO NOT stand with your face under a hot shower for the first 3-4 days. This could increase swelling. Try to avoid shower gels or hair products running on to your face as this could cause irritation and inflammation. Rinse thoroughly with tepid water if products do come into contact with the area(s) treated and gently pat dry.
  6. AVOID swimming or chlorinated water as it can increase irritation.
  7. Men should AVOID shaving the treated area until it is fully healed (around 7 days).
  8. If you have had treatment around your eyes, you should AVOID wearing contact lenses for 72 hours after your treatment.
  9. MAKE UP MUST BE AVOIDED UNTIL THE SCABS HAVE FALLEN OFF.
  10. NO Sun Exposure. NO Tanning Beds. Once the scabs have fallen off, you must wear a PHYSICAL sunblock ONLY, (which is zinc & titanium) and a hat while your skin is in the healing stages (pink in color) and you should continue to do so for at least 12 weeks to avoid hyperpigmentation. Wear sunscreen whether your inside or outside!

Weeks 8-12 Following the Treatment

  1. 1. Once the scabs have fallen off (approximately 7 days), your skin may be a little pink. This is normal and will resolve over time. You may begin to apply your normal foundation/makeup/sunblock but AVOID using skincare products containing glycolic/salicylic/retinol/AHA/ scrubs/Clarisonic or any other active exfoliating ingredients/devices for at least 7 days, as this will cause irritation. We recommend mineral make up which has minimal ingredients and allows the skin to breathe while your healing.
  2. AVOID Sun Exposure. AVOID Tanning Beds.
  3. DO NOT have any other facial treatments in the same treatment area while your skin is healing (12 weeks).
  4. DO NOT wax the treatment area for at least 21 days, if not longer
  5. You must AVOID saunas during your 12-week healing period

Day 5-7+: If your skin is still sensitive, hold off on Retinol.  Otherwise, you may add in retinol at PM on day 5 or after.  Retinol should be applied after Vitamin C, before moisturizer.

There are no restrictions on bathing except to treat the skin gently, avoid scrubbing the treated area.  During the first two days following treatment the treatment area should be kept clean to avoid contamination or infection; any mechanical or thermal damage (AVOID hot tubs, saunas, etc.) to the area(s) must be avoided.

Moisturizer (lotions and creams) may be applied 24-72 hours after each treatment and then should be applied regularly throughout the course of the treatment. Make-up may be applied only 48 hours after each treatment session. Generally, 24 hours after treatment, patients may use regular soaps, but not scrub soaps or exfoliates.

Prophylactic antibiotic treatment may be prescribed for 1-3 days post treatment. Patient is to contact the provider if there is any indication of infection, excessive swelling, redness, undue pain, or any other unusual or untoward symptom.

No strenuous activity. Any activity that elevates your blood pressure and heart rate can cause bruising. You should avoid running, weightlifting, Pilates, yoga, aerobics, cycling, climbing, sun, heat exposure and sex for the first 24-72hrs.

The use of a sun block SPF 30+ at all times after 48 hours.

Bruising, redness, and swelling may occur lasting days to weeks. Lymphatic drainage is NORMAL, typically it only happens after your first treatment.  RF stimulates lymphatic drainage which causes swelling.  You can take OTC Benadryl and Zyrtec to help, as well as use cold compresses (not ice).

Tiny scabs may appear after 1-3 days and stay for several days following the treatment. The scabs should not be touched or scratched even if they itch and should be allowed to flake off naturally.  You can use an OTC 1% Hydrocortisone cream to help with itching/scabs after 2 days.

Blisters are rare, but when they do occur, may be treated with a prescribed antibiotic ointment, or burn treatment cream as per provider’s discretion.

Elevate your head and avoid lying flat or prone (face down). Putting your head on a few pillows, will help reduce bruising, swelling, and pooling of blood in the area treated.  Make sure you use a clean pillowcase the night of your treatment.

Take oral arnica immediately and after 24-72 hours, apply topical arnica as needed for bruising.  The Skin Nectar has arnica in it as well.

POST TREATMENT

After a MIRApeel procedure, some patients experience mild itchiness and/or redness in the treated area. These symptoms typically subside quickly, and visible improvements to the texture and tone of the skin can be expected after a few days.

In general, patients should not apply makeup, masks, or peels within 48 hours of MIRApeel, unless otherwise directed by our team. Using unapproved products on the treated skin could interfere with the skin’s healing process and compromise your results.

Sun exposure and tanning beds should also be avoided as the skin recovers. Our team will advise you when you can resume your outdoor activities. We can also provide personalized recommendations regarding the best sun protection practices and products you can use to prevent future sun damage.

Avoid steam or sauna for at least 15 days.

Avoid strenuous activity for at least 2 days.

You will begin to notice the effects of your MIRApeel treatment within a few days. Improvements will continue over the following weeks.

The best MIRApeel results can be achieved with a series of treatment sessions. Our team will determine your MIRApeel treatment schedule based on your skin concerns and how your skin responds to the procedure.

Most patients arrive at their desired outcome in four to eight sessions spaced a week or two apart. To keep your skin looking youthful and healthy long-term, maintenance MIRApeel sessions can be performed every one to three months, or as recommended by our team.
