Botulinum Toxins:FDA approved medications for the temporary improvement of smooth lines and wrinkles by relaxing the muscles.
- Botox®($13/unit): The most recognized brand with FDA approval in 2002 and effects in 7-14 days, lasting 3-6 months.
- Dysport®($11/ 3units): Received FDA approval in 2009 with effects in 2-10 days and lasting 4-6 months. A great option for patients with strong muscles. Keep in mind that 2.5 units of Dysport = 1 unit of Botox/Jeuveau.
- Jeuveau®($11/unit): FDA approval in 2019. Known as the “NewTox,” this new kid on the block has shown results in as little as 2-3 days, lasting 3-6 months. Jeuveau® uses Hi-Pure technology which removes some of the proteins found in Botox and aids with absorption.
- Xeomin®($11/unit): FDA approval in 2011. Known as the “Naked Botox,” this neurotoxin has no proteins added and is pure Botulism Type A. This is a great option for all patients, particularly those who may have a resistance to other toxins.

Thinking about Botox? Wondering if it’s right for you? We’ve got you! Prevention is always easier to treat than correction, but Toxin’s can do both. Toxin can reduce the prominence of young wrinkles that are yet to kick in, while preventing future wrinkles from becoming moderate or severe. It can also soften existing lines, help with chronic headaches, reduce the size of pores, decreased oil production, excessive sweating, TMJ and Toxin can help to open your eyes more.
Depending on which Toxin is used, you can expect to see results in 2-10 days with peak effectiveness after two weeks. The “best” it will look is around 6-8 weeks when it’s settled. Gradually, the Toxin will become less intense and in about 3-4 months, you will need your next treatment. We recommend not waiting for full muscle movement before your next appointment.
